Dear colleagues,

would anybody recommend me how to over come the following problem
with the XCFIT.PRO using IDL Version 5.6 under x86 linux at PC.

Starting XCFIT, selecting one line and trying to 'Add component..'
the procedure XCFIT is stopped giving the following message :

% XMANAGER: Caught unexpected error from client application. Message follows...
% Expression must be a structure in this context: INFO.
% Execution halted at: CWF_COMPONENT_REALIZE_COLOR 300 /usr/local/ssw/gen/idl/fitting/cwf_component.pro
% CWF_COMPONENT 368 /usr/local/ssw/gen/idl/fitting/cwf_component.pro
% CWF_FIT 138 /usr/local/ssw/gen/idl/fitting/cwf_fit.pro
% XCFIT_REMAKE 424 /usr/local/ssw/gen/idl/fitting/xcfit.pro
% XCFIT_ADDCOMP 556 /usr/local/ssw/gen/idl/fitting/xcfit.pro
% XCFIT_EVENT 657 /usr/local/ssw/gen/idl/fitting/xcfit.pro
% XMANAGER_EVLOOP_FAKE_MODAL 568 /usr/local/rsi/idl/lib/xmanager.pro
% XMANAGER 706 /usr/local/rsi/idl/lib/xmanager.pro
% XCFIT 1064 /usr/local/ssw/gen/idl/fitting/xcfit.pro
% $MAIN$

Checking the INFO structure at line 300 in cwf_component.pro I have found that
starting to execute this line the INFO variable is undefined...
It seems that it is again a problem with the widgets in IDL but not in version
5.6 instead of 5.0. The previous one was solved by

; Version 6, SVHH, 15 September 1997
; Tried (again!) to fix IDL v 5.0 widgets...

My SSW installation is updated daily.

Many thanks beforehand for your ideas

Jan Rybak

Dear CDS planner,

all details of the CDS part for the JOP185 has been solved
earlied with Dr. Young.

Now I would like just to change the slit width for the JOP 185
from 4" to 2" for all VARDYN1-VARDYN4 procedures.
I hope this will be not a problem for you.

I shall be reading my emails again only on April 10 from ~10UT
after our arrival at SST at LaPalma. I shall send you my specification
of the target coordinates not later that on April 16 UT for April 11.

Then I shall be tuned at SST during the whole period of the g-b port of
the JOP185 until the end of the campaign (April 26).

With best wishes

Dear Dr. Young,

oh, sorry for this trouble. No problem for the moment, you can start
with the 4 arcsec slit from April 11. Later during the campaign the
2 arcsec slit would be really welcome from our point of view. But
it really can take a few day. As this request is very late we fully
understand that this can not be fulfiled immediately.

I shall contact the CDS planner with the target position for Apr 11
tomorrow till 15 UT.

With best wishes and many thnaks for your work for us beforehand

Jan Rybak

Many thanks for your reply. No problem for these two days, just
coalignment of the data will be more difficult but they can be used
for an analysis. Nevertheless we welcome very much that from Apr 13
you will bew able to fix this problem.

We completely undestand that when planner are changing such problems
can arise...

Our runs should start with 2 full CCD spectra acquired with the
different exposure times. These two exposures should finish till 07:00 and
then series of rasters should start during the period when
EIT is doing its synoptic images. A long 1D slit fixed position
part then follows while finished just before 13:00 to be followed
be the rasters again. But this is clear to you from the previously
prepared planning of the CDS part for JOP 171 which we copied also
for our current JOP185.

With many thsnks for your help and support

Dear Dr. Brosius,

sorry for my too detail email, the different parts of the CDS operation
I have mentioned are all included in the VARDYN_A or VARDYN_B programs.
The only thing you should know is to start each odf them roughly at 6:45 UT.
In this case the rasters performed withing these programs will be temporally
taken in the same time as the EIT synoptic images (i.e. at 7:00-7:30 and
13:00-13:30).

I hope now everything is much more clear to you.

Jan Rybak

Dear colleagues,

JO185 - April 12: target position X = +165", Y = +150" (i.e. sa little bit
west from another new emerging small AR, where we expect our
                  fibrils...).

La Palma: April 11 : clear aky in the morning, bad seeing, SST setup
preparation, no data from SST and DOT.

With best wishes from La Palma

Dear Dr. Brosius,

many thanks for your CDS support. In fact due to bad weather here at
LaPalma the CDS and TRACE data are the only one we have acquired so far...

OK. I shall send you tomorrow targets for Apr 15,16. No JOP185 on Apr 17.

Apr 18: I have got an email from Danelle few day ago concerning the next week
where is has written:

>I am the CDS planner for the week beginning Monday 17th April. However,
>Jeff Brosius will be doing the planning for me for Monday 17th and
>Tuesday 18th, when your JOP 185 starts.
>Please can you ensure that you send the pointing for your observations

>weekend prior to your JOP is a holiday weekend, Jeff may want to do a
>large plan including Tuesday 18th before the weekend. Please can you
>check with him if that is the case.

So should I send you tomorrow also the target for April 18? Or is it enough
to send it to the CDS planner address on Mon April 17?

With best wishes

Dear Dr. Brosius,

checking the CDS realtime images I have noticed just a minute ago
that the exposure time is 100s also for that inner parts
of the VARDYN_A and also VARDYN_B programs which has to be
much shorted (VARDYN4/v1 especially).

Can you please check this, the exposure time for the VARDYN4/v1
inner part of the VARDYN_A and VARDYN_B programs should be
much shorter ~10s only! Or is this just the erro when preparing
the web page with the CDS realtime images?

The 100s exposure time is too long for our study (VARDYN4/v1 part).

With many thanks for your checking this issue

Jan Rybak

I would prefer to use the second option. I shall send email
with the target coordinated also to your personal e-mail address.
Planning for 4 days ahead is too unceratain, in my opinion.

With many thanks for you help

Dear Danielle,

> I hope that JOP 185 is going well.

Yes, the CDS at L2 and TRACE on the orbit are doing their best, but here at LaPalma
we have had only one good day so far (Apr15). Still either clouds, or bad seeing...

> When you are ready, please can you send me the pointing for the 19th
> April.

I have laready sent it in the email to all planner:

JO185 - April 19: target position X = +900", Y = -70" (i.e. southwest from AR10871,
                                   enhanced network/faculae).

> If you can provide pointing for the 20th as well, that would be
> very helpful.

Could we wait till Apr 19 midday? The problem we have is that the adaptive optics of the
SST needs a small spot under the moderate seeing conditions to close the loop. There
is a change that such a spot will apprear in the new emerging AR (E35,S5, 18/4/06 08:00).
Therefore we would like to decide on the target for Apr 20 only tomorrow using the new
morning images from MDI.

Many thanks for your information. Both runs starting just before 07:00 are completely
ok for us as it was e.g. on Apr 14,15,16.

With best wishes and many thanks for your cooperation beforehand

Dear Danielle,

many thanks for your support. This day it is much easier to select our target for
day after tomorrow. So there was no problem to reply.

Here is our target for April 21 - an area north from the AR 19874:

JO185 - April 21: target position : X = +350", Y = +125"

Dear Peter,

thanks for your email. We will try to follow the target you have specified.
Your selection is completely o.k. for us for Apr 26, our last day of campaign.

Notes, summary and some images from our campaign you can find at
http://www.astro.sk/~choc/06_campaign/06_campaign.html .

Mostly we have had bad seeing conditions here at La Palma with just few minutes of
good seeing on 3 days. Nevertheless 2 runs of DOT and SST with good seeing
cospatially with the CDS and TRACE have been acquired. Although the famous
La Palma seeing has not appeared here for more that 2 weeks so far...

So many thanks for your kind support of our SST+DOR g-b campaign supported
by the JOP185. We are sure that data are as we have have in mind at least
for these to runs. We will definitely work on them.

With best wishes

Dear Andy,

would you be so kind to correct the web page you maintain -
http://solar.bnsc.rl.ac.uk/atlas/search.shtml - in a way
that for the start date it could be possible to specify also
the year 2006 ?

I have already asked you for this change a month ago but you are
probably very busy.

In hope you will be able to correct this page in the next few days

Dear Cristina - CDS planner in charge,

according to our expressed interest for the CDS support for the JOP189
we see that for this week our program is scheduled as requested for the
days Aug 3-5 - information we have got in "CDS OPERATIONS 30 JUL - 5 AUG 2007"
email. So many thanks to you and all other CDS colleagues involved.

As our STUDIES TO RUN - VARDYN_A/v1 (duration 7hr 10min) and VARDYN_B/v1
(duration 13hr 5min) - have already been run several times so we expect no
serious problems.

Just a note: there are alternatives to these two runs named VARDYN_C/v1
(duration 7hr 10min) and VARDYN_D/v1 (duration 13hr 5min) in which
the 100-second full detector exposure is omitted to save the detector in case of
an active region observations. Therefore we suggest to be on the safe side -
to replace VARDYN_A/v1 and VARDYN_B/v1 with VARDYN_C/v1 and VARDYN_D/v1.
These alternatives were already prepared and tested.

According to the previous email of Peter Young (given below) we expect the CDS
support of our JOP189 also during next weeks till Aug 17. As CDS is our key
instrument to reach goals of our campaign we hope this will be possible to realize.

Finally, please send all email correspondence related to JOP189 to the
following addresses: gomory@ta3.sk (Peter Gomory) and choc@astro.sk (Jan Rybak).
Peter will be supporting DOT observations at La Palma and Jan will try to
coordinate observations (DOT, SOHO, TRACE, HINODE) from Slovakia.

We are looking forward for fruitful cooperation.

With best wishes

Jan Rybak and Peter Gomory

Dear Peter,

Thanks for your request. We will be able to support your campaign
however we can not offer support during the 34m keyhole (18-31 August).
Our operations are severely limited during the keyhole and so we only do
very basic synoptic studies during this time. Depending on the precise
keyhole schedule you may also lose 2 or 3 days before the 34m keyhole,
but I can't confirm this at present.

CDS has already agreed to support the filament/cavity campaign you
mention but we are happy to support both campaigns. The only problem may
be if you both require the same observing period for ground-based
observatories. Some compromise will be needed in this case. Please check
with the SOHO SOC who will help in coordinating the two campaigns.

In summary then, we will be able to support you each day during 3-17
August but with the provisos given above.

Thanks,

	Peter

Subject: request for CDS support

Dear Dr. Young,

after very successful coordinated campaign between DOT (LaPalma)
telescope and SOHO/CDS spectrometer performed in July 2006
(http://www.astro.sk/~choc/open/06_dot/06_dot.html)
we would like to repeat this coordinated campaign also in 2007.

Fortunately we were able to manage to get the DOT support for 28 days
(3-31/8/2007) this year!

Now we work on other supporting instruments among which the CDS
involvement is crucial (see proposal at
http://www.astro.sk/~choc/open/07_dot/rybak_dot_proposal_2007.pdf).

Based on experience we have gained last year we would prefer the CDS to
run for us the VARDYN_C/v1 (06:40-13:30 UT) targeted at an active region
or alternatively VARDYN_A/v1 focused on the quiet Sun (06:40-13:30 UT).
Both runs were already used several times. Targets will be selected on a
daily basis according to the actual activity on the solar disk in
advance.

We have recognized that there are at the moment two limiting factors
which could affect our campaign:

1/ Aug 12-Sep 09 26m Keyhole (Aug 18-Sep 03 34m Keyhole):
       - higher change of data loss
       - possibly no MDI HR/FD data after Aug 12/17 2/ Aug 5-18
campaign: Filament/Cavity-CME-ICME IHY-CIP campaign,
                      CDS/UVCS/TRACE/Hinode-EIS/Hinode-XRT/Hinode-SOT/
                      COMP/SOLARC/
                      ProMag/MWA/RHESSI,
                      POC: Terry Kucera

We send you our request in advance before contacting the SOHO SOC as we
understand that there is almost no chance to get the CDS support for 28
days in one run... Therefore we would like to ask you what is a
acceptable number of days for one (our) campaign and how we can schedule
these days in August 2007 having the SOHO keyhole in mind (is it
possible to get some CDS data also during the SOHO keyhole?).

Due to MDI possibility to provide HR/FD data only before Aug 12/17 we
would highly welcome a continuous CDS support for our campaign at least
for Aug 3-11 or, if possible, for Aug 3-17.

As support of the European ground based telescopes is guaranteed we are
interested only in the morning hours (~06:30-13:30) leaving rest of time
for other possible studies (e.g. Filament/Cavity-CME-ICME IHY-CIP
campaign by Terry Kucera).

Of course, we understand more other reasons could appear in the
meantime.
Nevertheless we would be obliged to get your reply and answer. Based on
it we will continue to discuss our campaign with the MDI, TRACE, and
SOHO planners (the observing details of all participating instruments
are listed below).

With many thanks beforehand

Peter Gomory and Jan Rybak, coordinators of the SOHO/DOT/TRACE observing
campaign

many thanks for your email and CDS planning for our JOP189.

> The CDS plan for Friday is attached. Between 07:00 - 14:10 UT, we
> will be supporting JOP189 (Microflares and supergranular dynamics).

As I was not able to understand in detail the PLAN file I have checked the planned
CDS actions also at http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov/data/synoptic/.targets/today.html
where I have found for the JOP189:

CDS Start: 3-Aug-2007 07:00:42 End: 3-Aug-2007 14:07:17
Duration: 7h6m35s
Sci. Obj: JOP189 microflares and supergranular dyn
Spec. Obj: VARDYN_C/v1
Object: Quiet Sun
Campaign 7240 : Microflares and Network Dynamics

Center Coordinates Field Of View
(arcsecs) (arcsecs)
X-cen Y-cen Width Height
0.00 0.00 2.00 240.00
0.00 0.00 2.00 240.00
0.00 0.00 40.00 142.00
0.00 0.00 2.00 142.00

0.00 0.00 2.00 240.00
0.00 0.00 2.00 240.00

Familiar with the previous runs of the VARDYN_C/v1 I expect that this means

X-cen Y-cen Width Height
0.00 0.00 2.00 240.00 - full detector - t_exp_1
0.00 0.00 2.00 240.00 - full detector - t_exp_2
0.00 0.00 40.00 142.00 - sequence of rasters
0.00 0.00 2.00 142.00 - sequence of exposures in the sit-and-stare mode
0.00 0.00 40.00 142.00 - sequence of rasters
0.00 0.00 2.00 240.00 - full detector - t_exp_2
0.00 0.00 2.00 240.00 - full detector - t_exp_1

I will check this at CDS Realtime web page
http://solar.bnsc.rl.ac.uk/cgi-bin/viewimg.new
and I will let you know in case of differences between
expected actions and acquired data.

Of course I will inform you about target for Aug 4,5,6 later today.

So our campaign starts in a hour...

With best wishes

Dear Peter, CDS planner for this week,

I am glad that you are again the CDS planner for week32 when our JOP189 is on the list.

As we have had CDS time also during the weekend of week 31 I was able to check the
data coming from CDS via CDS Realtime web page. Everything was running successfully
for our JOP.

For this week I would like to ask you for just two minor changes:

- 1/ start our VARDYN study not exactly at 07:00 but earlier (optimum is 06:40UT).
This due to the fact we would like to have CDS rasters taken when EIT is doing its
synoptic images (07:00-07:30). (Our CDS study starts with two full detector exposures,
     not directly with rasters.)

- 2/ One of these full detector exposures is of 100s exposure time. As we plan to move
to a active region target for this week we propose to shorten this exposure time
down to ~10s to save the detector.

I shall send you the detail target position today at ~12UT.

Finally, please send all email correspondence related to JOP189 to the
following addresses: gomory@ta3.sk (Peter Gomory) and choc@astro.sk (Jan Rybak).
Peter is supporting DOT observations at La Palma and I try to coordinate observations
(DOT, SOHO, TRACE, HINODE) from Slovakia.

We are looking forward for fruitful cooperation.

With best wishes

Jan Rybak, on behalf of the JOP189 team

Dear Peter,

thanks a lot for your immediate answer.

> Thanks for your e-mail. I will start VARDYN at 06:40 this week, directly

Perfect! This will help us a lot. The reason to coordinate CDS rasters and
EIT synoptic (TRACE) images in such a detail is to reach post-facto as good as
possible co-alignment of the data.

According to our notes there should be already in the database such a study.
VARDYN_A was changed to VARDYN_C with the long full detector already shortened
suffuciently. Are our notes right ?

DATE: 26-Apr-2006
DOY: 116
OPERATIONS ENGINEER(S): C. Maroney / R. Yurow

CDS INSTRUMENT: Nominal.
CDS GROUND SYSTEM:
The following studies were imported to the EOF database:
    VARDYN_C (Study_ID/319 Var/1)

Nevertheless we can keep 100s exposure when you agree from the CDS point of view.

With many thanks

Dear Peter,

thanks for your email.

I have checked this again but it seems to me to be correct. Yesterday it was x=-220"
and for tomorrow it is asked to be x=+220". The value is the same just the sign has
been changed...

Dear Peter,

many thanks for the CDS support of our DOT+JOP189+HOP020 campaign going on.
Yesterday also the DOT telescope had good seeing so we were able to caugth the
GOES X-ray A1 event (10:54-11:10UT) with all instruments involved. Just
CDS realtime page had no actual data yesterday so we can not confirm now
if also in the CDS data its response was acquired. We will check this later.

Fro now just one question: until what day CDS could support our campaign?
In my notes it is until August 17 but we would like to check this again.

Pointing for the weekend and Monday (no CDS support) we will sed to you later today.

With many thanks for your answer beforehand

Jan R. (dot_jop189_hop020@astro.sk)
