Dear SOHO Science Operations Coordinators, our team has been granted by the observing time for the following DOT/La Palma observing campaign for the time interval October 6-20, 2008. The brief information are listed here: - title: Physical mechanisms driving solar microflares and network dynamic fibrils - relevance for coronal heating and mass supply - period: 06-20/10/2008 (15 days) - leader : Jan Rybak, (choc@astro.sk) - campaign page: http://www.astro.sk/~choc/open/08_dot/08_dot.html - campaign approved and granted by the observing time of DOT: see the DOT schedule: http://dot.astro.uu.nl/web-schedule2007.txt - targets: microflares: AR or remnants of the AR magnetic flux fibrils : solar network - time requested: each day from 07:00 till 13:30 UT if possible Therefore, we would like to ask you for the SOHO support of our g-b campaign as a repetition of the SOHO JOP189 which has been run last year. Alternatively we can prepare an application for a new JOP as the network dynamics was specified in more detail now using the dynamic network fibrils term. Please advice which way should be used as better for SOHO. The following instruments are planned to be used: CDS: all details are discussed directly with A. Fludra in advance. We were asking just for the regular operations of the CDS already included to its flexible operations of CDS. The VARDYN program was run several times already - just one spectral line is planned to be exchanged with a new one. EIT: CME watch in 195 A channel. The EIT team will not contacted as we expect that this type of observations is nominal for EIT. MDI: HR magnetograms (1 per minute) + HR intesitygrams (at least cadence of 96 minutes). THE MDI planner is contacted today. Operation of our g-b campaign will be performed directly at La Palma the DOT but using my home email address choc@astro.sk. We are aware that we have to specify the target at least a day in advance. We see possible conflicts with the campaigns: * Oct 6-10 ICAL01 (#7113), CDS/EIT/Hinode-EIS/Hinode-SOT/STEREO * Oct 16-20 MDI 5-Day Continuous Contact * Oct 16,28 EIT Shutterless #33 Therefore we understand that there is no change to support our campaign in October. Nevertheless we hope there will be a chance to get some early morning (UT) time for support of our DOT campaign. We have already asked the TRACE team for its support of our campaign as well). Some tests will be performed to check the technical details for the TRACE support (D. Myers). Request for the Hinode part will be sent next week. The CDS PI has replied with a preliminary ok. Request to the MDI planner has been sent also. Finally, we would like to mentioned that a similar SOHO/Hinode/RHESSI program with the DOT g-b support was run in August 2007. At that time Alex Young agreed to serve as the POC at Goddard. We do hope that all mentioned SOHO instruments will not be oversubscribed and at least for some days they will be able to support our DOT campaign for which we will have perfect LaPalma seeing. I am looking forward to hear from you about your decision whether SOHO can support our g-b campaign under specified conditions by EIT, MDI and CDS instruments. With many thanks beforehand Jan Rybak 01/08/2008 PS: Enclosed you will find the oroginal email request sent already to CDS, MDI and the TRACE. ******************************************************************** * Jan Rybak tel. : ++421 52 7879 156 * * Astronomical Institute fax : ++421 52 4467 656 * * Slovak Academy of Sciences e-mail : choc@astro.sk * * 05960 Tatranska Lomnica WWW : http://www.astro.sk/~choc * * Slovak Republic * ********************************************************************
