Dear MDI Operations Coordinators, we would like to ask, if it would be possible, to support our g-b observing campaign (DOT/LaPalma) described below with the corresponding MDI measurements. Our team has been granted by the observing time for the following DOT/LaPalma (Canary Island, Spain) observing campaign for the time interval October 6-20, 2008. The CDS/SOHO and TRACE support was preliminary confirmed. Here follow the details of the campaign: - Title: Physical mechanisms driving solar microflares and network dynamic fibrils - relevance for coronal heating and mass supply - Principal Investigator: Jan Rybak (choc@astro.sk) - Web page: http://www.astro.sk/~choc/open/08_dot/08_dot.html - Instruments/telescopes: DOT/La Palma, Kanzelhoehe/Austria CDS,MDI,EIT/SOHO, TRACE, RHESSI, Hinode - Targets: microflares: AR or remnants of the AR magnetic flux fibrils : solar network - Scheduled period: 06-20/10/2008 06:30-13:30 UT for space-born instruments - MDI data of interest: - HR magnetograms (1 per minute) + - HR intesitygrams (at least cadence of 96 minutes) - selection between the FD and HR mode would be done in advance depending on the actual activity situation on the Sun - in case of HR mode we would prefer E-W elongated MDI FOV - MDI period requested: 06-20/10/2008 - MDI time requested: each day from 07:00 till 13:30 UT if possible We understand that several technical limitations and other requests can seriously limit your possibilities to joint with your MDI data our g-b campaign. Nevertheless your HR B_long magnetograms would be very helpful for our work. At the moment we clearly see that for the period of 5 days in October you have scheduled: * Oct 15-19 MDI Continuous Contact (TBD) - HR Magnetic/Velocity Helioseismology We are looking forward to hear from you whether you can support our g-b observations. These observations will be perfomed asa repetition of the JOP189 from August 2007 or onder a new JOP number sepndig of the SOHO SOC decision. With many thanks beforehand Jan Rybak, on behalf of the campaign team Tatranska Lomnica, 01/08/2008 ************************************************************************** * Jan Rybak tel. : ++421 52 78791-56 (-11 secretary) * * Astronomical Institute fax : ++421 52 4467 656 * * Slovak Academy of Sciences email : choc@astro.sk * * 05960 Tatranska Lomnica WWW : http://www.astro.sk/~choc * * Slovak Republic * **************************************************************************
